The search for a new County Commissioner is on!

The search for a new County Commissioner is on!

I have been tasked by our Regional Commissioner, Andrew Corrie, to commence the search to find a new County Commissioner in succession to Glen Fendall.

The role of County Commissioner is vital in providing leadership and management to Scouting in East Lancashire through District Commissioners and Group Scout Leaders. We are therefore looking for someone with management and leadership experience who wants to do more to support Scouting.  This person also needs to have excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to motivate and inspire others, as well as the capability to develop and implement the long term County development strategy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for taking us forward into the future as a growing organisation relevant to young people and adults alike. Our current membership in East Lancashire is over 2,900 young people supported by over 925 adults. We continue to have opportunities to grow and we now need someone to help to continue this journey.

I am therefore writing to seek your support in bringing this vital role to the notice of anyone you think maybe suitable.  You may wish to nominate someone or you may wish to self nominate if you feel you have the qualities and skills to become County Commissioner.

An information pack and more information can be found at

The deadline for nominations and applications is Wednesday 3rd January 2018.

Please note that in order to ensure confidentiality you should not discuss a nomination with anyone except the nominee themselves, who should be willing for their name to be considered.

Please consider all the people with whom you work in scouting, at work, or in the wider community and to identify anyone who you believe has the qualities to be our County Commissioner.  At this stage it is really important to draw up a list with as wide a cross section of people as possible, so that the Search Group can begin the process of preparing a short list.

I thank you in anticipation of your support.
