Clitheroe District have sent a group of around fifty Young People to Kandersteg International Scout Centre, deep in the Swiss Alps for a week of snow-filled activities. We've been getting regular updates from Matt Paiton, an Explorer Scout who is part of the contingent. Matt writes...
Well we're here, the journey over went without a hitch but landing on a snow coated runway rose a few eyebrows. Only a few hours after setting off from snowy Manchester, we arrived in the small village of Kandersteg deep in the Swiss Alps, the home to the largest Scout Youth Hostel in the world. The group of 50 from across East Lancashire will be spending just over a week ski-ing, boarding and loads of other adventurous activities all set with the fantastic background of soaring snow capped mountains. Jamie, an Explorer Scout who is spending the week snowboarding, said, "It's been fantastic so far: I've really enjoyed going down such steep slopes but it's really tiring". Unit leader Fil Ruddock noted, 'it's great to see the young people learning so much so far but I think it's really encouraging to see adults giving their spare time to such a good cause'. With trips to Bern, the capital of Switzerland and more importantly the most International New year celebrations imaginable we're all really excited about therest of the week. Watch out for our article when we return!
